Palm Beach Strip Clubs: Recession turns more Fla. women to stripping

April 26th, 2010 by palmbeach-stripper

With full-time jobs scarce or simply not enough to pay the bills, many of these women flocked to local strip clubs that were more than happy to see an influx of potential dancers.
But even the clubs have suffered from the sluggish economy. Customers have switched from handing out fives and tens to sheepishly dropping singles.
“We have been touched by the economy, but we’re still doing well,” said Karen Vercher, president of the company that manages the Spearmint Rhino club in West Palm Beach. “Our customer count is growing, but per-spending is down.”
The county’s licensing requirement began in 1999 to prevent underage girls from dancing nude. Dancers pay a one-time fee of $75 and receive an identification card.

There are no male strip clubs registered in Palm Beach County and only a small number of male dancers with licenses.

[WPLG-10]As if the Ben Novack murder case isn’t wild enough already, the latest star witness is named Big Fannie Annie, who says that the wife, Narcy Novack, was into voodoo and counting cash during the period they both worked at a Hialeah strip club. Also, it’s worth taking it a second look at the mysterious death of the woman who was to be executor of the Novack estate, Bernice Novack, whose bloody demise was attributed to a series of “falls.” [Miami Herald]Thanks to D-Wade’s heroics, there will be no Celtic sweep of the Heat. Palm Beach Strip Clubs: Two bodies, few answers in Novack family mystery

April 26th, 2010 by palmbeach-stripper

She performed clerical work for her son’s company, Convention Concepts Unlimited. Family and friends said the 87-year-old was in robust health, regularly practiced yoga and drove herself to work every day.
The entire Novack clan — Ben Jr., his wife Narcy, Bernice, and Narcy Novack’s adult daughter, May Abad — worked at Convention Concepts, which grossed more than $50 million annually.
It wasn’t a lovefest. Ben and Narcy’s relationship was strained, as Ben carried on affairs with a number of women.
Narcy and her daughter had a long history of animosity.
Ben Jr. was often cold and indifferent to his mother, whom he addressed by her first name.
Bernice didn’t care for Narcy, an exotic dancer when Narcy and Ben Jr. met 25 years earlier. Big Fannie Annie, a stripper working in Las Vegas, recalls Narcy — whom she said danced under the name “Sylvia” when they worked at the now-defunct Follies International club in Hialeah.

April 24th, 2010 by palmbeach-stripper

With full-time jobs scarce or simply not enough to pay the bills, many of these women flocked to a handful of local strip clubs that were more than happy to see an influx of potential dancers.
But even the clubs have suffered from the sluggish economy as customers switch from handing out fives and tens to sheepishly dropping singles.
“We have been touched by the economy, but we’re still doing well,” said Karen Vercher, president of the company that manages the Spearmint Rhino club in West Palm Beach. “Our customer count is
growing, but per-spending is down.”

Since then, nearly 7,000 women have registered for adult entertainment licenses, almost 1,000 in 2009 alone. There are no male strip clubs registered in Palm Beach County and only a handful of male dancers with licenses.

Palm Beach Strip Clubs: Lauderhill could put 1-year moratorium on strip clubs

April 24th, 2010 by palmbeach-stripper

LAUDERHILL The city will vote Monday night on whether to impose a one-year ban on new strip clubs and other forms of adult entertainment businesses while it revises outdated laws.
If it passes, the moratorium would begin on May 10 but would not apply to businesses currently operating with valid permits. However, it’s not clear whether this would impact current businesses that need to renew city permits during that time period.

Davie’s adult business law was challenged in court by Club Eden in 2006, when the club was denied permission to go from exotic dancing to an all-nude establishment. Eden now operates as an all-nude strip club, but as part of a settlement, it will have to move from its current site at 2101 S. University Drive to an industrial zone within the next two years.

Palm Beach Adult Entertainment: M.R. v. STATE

April 22nd, 2010 by adultpalmbeach

The conduct of the appellant juvenile, a sixteen-year-old female, which consisted only of walking down the street in a “high prostitution area” at 9:30 in the evening
, did not give rise to the founded or articulable suspicion of unlawful activity necessary to justify the Terry stop effected by the police when, after engaging in a consensual and uneventful conversation, they placed her in their patrol car pending a “record search.” See Terry v. Ohio, 392 U.S. 1 (1968); Johnson v. State, 610 So. 2d 581 (Fla. 1st DCA 1993); Smith v. State, 592 So. 2d 1206 (Fla. 2d DCA 1992); State v. Hoover, 520 So. 2d 696 (Fla. 4th DCA 1988). Because they were thus not then acting in the lawful execution of their duties as Section 843.02, Florida Statutes (2008)

West Palm Beach massage parlor owner charged with money laundering, forcing women into prostitution
Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
A woman who operated Asian massage parlors in suburban West Palm Beach, Jacksonville and Connecticut hired illegal immigrants and put them to work as prostitutes, federal prosecutors said today.
Mal Suk Kim, 60, faces charges of harboring illegal immigrants and money laundering, according to documents filed today by Assistant U.S. Attorney John C. McMillan.
Originally arrested in 2008 after a lengthy investigation, Mal was charged in U.S. District Court by information, which usually signals a defendant is cooperating with prosecutors.
Her attorney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment this afternoon.
Another woman, Hannah Eun Sung Chong, 50, of Wellington agreed last year to plead guilty to charges of harboring illegal aliens and money laundering. A sentencing hearing is set for her in July.
