The sentence was the result of a plea agreement reached in the case earlier this month.
At Thursday’s hearing, DiBenedetto, 55, embraced two family members who accompanied him to court.
DiBenedetto was arrested in December 2008 and fired by Lauderhill after seven months on the job.
According to court records, DiBenedetto asked for bribes from two contractors who were working on post-Hurricane Wilma repairs at the Manors of Inverrary condominiums in Lauderhill. The documents indicate he asked a female victim in the case, “You know what you got to do” to get him to sign off on city inspections of her projects, investigators wrote. On one occasion, she suggested paying him $500, but he told her, “Hell no, $5,000.”
In addition to thousands of dollars, he received expensive dinners, champagne and lap dances at strip clubs, according to an investigative report.

A woman has been charged with four counts of child neglect for allegedly leaving her children alone at night while she is at work as a stripper, according to Riviera Beach police.
Corinthian Williams, 24, whose occupation on the police report is listed as “stripper,” was arrested late Monday night. She was released from Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday afternoon under her own supervision.
The state Department of Children & Families has taken custody of four children, ages 1, 5, 6 and 9, police said.
According to the report, Riviera Beach police and a DCF investigator first went to Williams’ house in September 2010 after someone called about her leaving the children alone at night, the police report says.
The police report details how a caller at that time said Williams beat the kids, was always drinking, and the bedroom was “filthy with clothes, trash, bottles and plates.” They also said the smallest child had an ear infection and hadn’t been taking medicine.

According to the report, Riviera Beach police and a DCF investigator visited 24-year-old Riviera Beach woman’s house last September after getting a tip about the children.
The police report says after investigators and police told Williams why they were there, she held up a 1-year-old child, with a heavily-soiled diaper, and told them, “take her. I don’t wanna.”
Ans the 9-year-old told police that his momma had men over and left them alone while they were in the bedroom.

BERLIN (Reuters) – The genteel world of opera collides with that of lurid headlines, strip clubs and Playboy on Thursday when a new work based on the life of the late Anna Nicole Smith has its premiere at London’s Royal Opera House. “Anna Nicole” is one of the prestigious opera company’s riskiest projects yet, both because it leaves Covent Garden open to accusations of sensationalism in a bid to stay relevant and because some of the characters in the story are still alive. According to the British media, lawyers are nervous, particularly in relation to tabloid star Smith’s ex-boyfriend Howard K. Stern whose conviction for supplying her with drugs …

When DiBenedetto picked up the money, he wore a City of Lauderhill shirt and a gold badge that read, “Chief Building Inspector,” although he was not the chief, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives said. When he asked for more money, investigators set it up so they were able to observe when he accepted $10,000, and they arrested him.
After the initial complaint in December 2008, a Pompano Beach-based general contracting company told investigators that DiBenedetto had started out demanding workers do things that were not required by the building code.
One of the company’s owners took DiBenedetto out in a limousine and bought a dinner that cost a few hundred dollars. Later they took him to a Fort Lauderdale
strip club and “spent about $2,000 entertaining [him] by purchasing champagne, lap dances or whatever [he] wanted,” according to the investigative report.

A Palm Beach County grand jury indicted former Florida Atlantic University Police officer Jimmy Ho on Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping in the shooting death of a Boynton Beach woman, according to State Attorney Michael McAuliffe.
The indictment stated that Ho killed Sheri Carter, 29, by shooting her after forcibly restraining her with handcuffs against her will.
At one point during the investigation, Ho claimed self-defense, accusing Carter of pulling a gun on him. Then he admitted to handcuffing her when he thought she was going to grab a knife, but when he uncuffed her, she struggled and he shot her in the abdomen with his gun, according to the police report.
Police found Carter unconscious in her Boynton Beach apartment suffering from two gunshot wounds on Jan. 31.
Carter’s neighbors told detectives that she was involved with an Internet escort service, police said.
