Planet Mu’s promotional description of Ital’s upcoming album Hive Mind (due out February 13) begins as follows, “If you’ve heard Daniel Martin-McCormick’s name recently…” Well, I haven’t! In fact, as the title of this article suggests, I briefly thought that fellow Planet Mu signee iTAL tEK had finally chosen to renounce his affinity for haphazard capitalization and go with a more mature moniker. Obviously that’s not the case, but no matter! Having just sampled a few of his tracks, I can say with a degree of certainty that Ital’s brand of haunting and contorted dance music will serve his new label, as well as its associated audience, quite well.
Martin-McCormick’s curriculum vitae seems to epitomize musical bipolarity. Growing up in Washington, DC, he was actively involved in the city’s hardcore scene, at one point signing to the renowned Dischord Records with his band Black Eyes. More recently, as Sex Worker (note: not as one), he’s released LPs through the eminently Southern Californian label Not Not Fun. Both outfits are …

… Sometimes things just go wrong and you have to protect the interests of your clients, and that’s exactly what’s going on here,” he said.
The co-owners of the for-profit Deerfield Florida House are Sherief Abu-Moustafa and his father, Adel. Sherief Abu-Moustafa blames neighborhood worries on ignorance.
“Unfortunately, people aren’t educated to what substance abuse is about. So they hear ‘detox,’ they think of, I think, pain clinics and drugs, and it spun out of control,” he said. “I think, politically, the city saw that there were people against it and they became uncomfortable and unfortunately tried to find a way of stopping it, which isn’t fair to me, which isn’t fair to the people I serve.”
Abu-Moustafa, himself a former addict, purchased the first Deerfield Florida House property in 2003, when it was a halfway house that he said was also a haven for illegal drugs and prostitution.

… Authorities say Richard V. Murray, 53, fled officers at high speed through 2.5 miles of Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, even using oncoming lanes to pass cars. He would serve two days in jail. Police seized his blue 2005 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider, worth about $12,000. He got it back for $1,000; the city even agreed to hold it until he could come up with the cash, which he did a month later.
•But after Jonathan Miceli, 28, was stopped in 2007 in what was his fourth DUI arrest, the city took his 2005 Ford F150, valued at $12,565. Police use it for undercover work. Miceli was sentenced to a year in prison and a $4,000 fine.
Then there’s Platinum Showgirls. In the early morning hours of Halloween 2009, police conducted a raid on the adult nightclub following a four-month undercover investigation that led to charges of drug trafficking, underage drinking and prostitution.

Rep. Abruzzo opposes that bill, which says “destination resort” casinos only can be placed in counties where voters have approved slot machines. So for now, Palm Beach County would be out of the running.
But if the casino bill passes, Rep. wants Palm Beach County to be able to compete for such a resort. So he has proposed a bill that would authorize a referendum to ask Palm Beach County voters if they want slot machines at the Kennel Club.
Even if the casino bill doesn’t pass, Rep. Abruzzo says slot machines at the Kennel Club would give the county an economic boost. He says that taxes on slots would bring in at least $25 million for the state and about $2 million for the county.
The local legislative delegation has agreed to support his bill.
Critics of gambling say expansion will harm existing businesses and also inflict big social costs, such as crime and prostitution.

Woman gets 13 years for sex trafficking
Published: Nov. 17, 2011 at 4:40 PM
OAKLAND PARK, Fla., Nov. 17 (UPI) — An Oakland Park, Fla., woman was sentenced to 13 years in prison for her role in a brothel.
Laschell “Shelly” Harris admitted she was a house mother to underage girls at the Boom Boom Room, where prosecutors say at least eight underage girls were sold for sex, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Wednesday.
Harris, 37, collected money from the girls and women at the Boom Boom Room, a rundown one-story house Harris rented in Oakland Park. She also sold food and alcohol to patrons and watched her boyfriend, James “Red” Mozie, have sex with the girls, federal records show.
Before the sentencing in Fort Lauderdale federal court, the father of one of the runaways read a letter his daughter, in which the girl states how she feared Harris and Mozie.

Brent Hawk, 47, in whose truck police allegedly found two crack rocks and a marijuana pipe, said the vehicle was critical to his landscaping business. He got it back after settling a $176 towing bill and paying the city $2,500. He later agreed to pretrial intervention. Authorities say Richard V. … Muoio praised the police department’s acting co-chiefs, Mary Santos-Olsen and Bryan Kummerlen: “They are doing an amazing job, they are very accessible to the communities, they will return your e-mails if you write them emails. They are doing really innovative work in the police department, some new things are happening and I think you’ll see some real changes. I’m real proud of their work.”
- Muoio said the police department is using a computer program to target prostitution hot spots. She said the police department is also running intelligence-led policing, where it monitors repeat criminals: “We’re identifying the offenders and staying on top of them before they offend again. We know certain offenses occur certain time of night in a particular spot. We’re using the data to predict where times can be and we intervene.”
