According to a criminal complaint filed in the United States District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Williams had recruited at least two girls and tried to have three others move in with him and work for him as prostitutes. All the girls were runaways under the age of 18, and all said Williams had sex with them or tried to.Police first arrived at Williams’ home on Feb. 27, according to the criminal complaint. When they arrived, no one answered the door, but the sounds of a man’s voice and a girl’s moans could be heard from outside the home.Officials burst into the home, where they found Williams trying to block them from searching the residence — yelling, swinging his arms and striking several officers before he was arrested. But the state charges brought against Williams from that February arrest were dropped even as federal officials continued their investigation. They spoke with four girls and the mother of a fifth, all of whom told investigators that Williams was r …

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Fort Lauderdale man with a long rap sheet is back in jail on charges of human sex trafficking of minors.
Van Williams, 49 of Fort Lauderdale, was taken into custody Wednesday May 16th by the FBI.
He made his initial appearance in federal court Thursday and will have a bond hearing on May 24th.
According to the criminal complaint, Williams met young girls, many of them underage runaways, in his neighborhood and invited them to stay with him at his Fort Lauderdale home. He would promise them food and shelter.
Williams would then convince the girls to work as prostitutes, according to the affidavit.
Williams would allegedly charge the prostitution customers a fee for “renting” one of his bedrooms and would collect all the money the customers paid to have sex with the minor girls.

Phillips has long insisted that the alleged drug deal never happened. From his prison cell, he continued to investigate his case, and found records showing that Ghent was not on duty on April 6, 2001; in fact, Ghent was taking a training course in hostage negotiation on the night of the alleged drug deal.
A private investigator later helped with the case and found Ghent’s informant, who said that she never bought drugs from Phillips. Phillips’ case was also highlighted in a series of articles in the New Times Broward-Palm Beach.
Ghent was later arrested on bribery charges for taking payoffs from a West Palm Beach massage parlor-turned-brothel called Relax With Us. The charges were dropped as part of a plea deal, and Ghent agreed to surrender his certification to work as a law enforcement officer. Ghent now lives in Arizona.

… I saw a market for it while in recovery,” said owner Don Prince. “Salons are a party industry. After work the whole crew usually goes out. There is a lot of peer pressure. It’s tough.”
Tough indeed. West Palm Beach’s Caitlin Bartolome is only 21 years old and fresh out of cosmetology school, she’s been a stylist for two years, but only working at Serenity Styles for a few months. Even though she prefers not to talk specifics about her bout with addiction, she freely admits that despite her youth she’s seen a lot, done a lot, regretted a lot.
“One day I just looked into the mirror and said, ‘so this is what you’ve become? A disgrace? Basically I was a prostitute on the street. I was clean on my 21

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – An Oakland Park man convicted of running an underage brothel learned Monday how long he will pay for his crimes.
James Mozie, 34, was sentenced to life in prison for running the brothel, dubbed the “Boom Boom Room.” He was convicted in December on ten charges including sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors and production of child pornography.
Federal investigators said Mozie advertised the business through mass text messages that would let people know about what was happening at the Boom Boom Room each night.
Customers would then pay a cover charge to a security guard and once inside; minors would dance for tips and engage in sex for money. The minors working for Mozie said he knew of their age and told them not to tell customers they were underage.

… I agree with it, I think we should have a curfew,” said Ted Guerra, president of the Jefferson Neighborhood Association, a group of homes right near the park.
The new rules are simple: Nobody on park grounds during that five-hour stretch, or risk a citation from park police.
“Our park has never had a curfew, but all the other parks have had a curfew,” said Guerra. “It’s a shame that we need to resort to something like that.”
The problem lies with crime, he argued.
He said more and more people are causing trouble once the sun goes down.
The majority of the crime, neighbors said, centers around open areas of the park, like basketball and tennis courts. People said they’ve seen everything from graffiti to drug dealing to prostitution.

… AP) — A former prostitute and porn actress testified Tuesday that she had a yearlong affair with a Florida millionaire that ended only when he was beaten to death.
Rebecca Bliss, 40, her arms and legs heavily tattooed, said she met Ben Novack Jr., whose father built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach, through an online ad for sex.
Bliss testified for the prosecution at the federal murder trial of Novack’s wife, Narcy Novack, who is accused of arranging the separate 2009 killings of her husband and his mother. Her brother, Cristobal Veliz, is a co-defendant.
Ben Novack was found dead in July 2009 in a room at a New York hotel that he was sharing with his wife. His body had been pummeled with dumbbells, his eyes slit with a knife.
…
Back in Florida, she said, she turned to prostitution. Ben Novack answered her “escort” ad in an email, and they exchanged emails and phone calls, then met for sex. She charged Novack $600.
