May 05–An East Rockaway woman ran a prostitution business out of a hot dog vending truck she often parked on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin, Nassau police said Friday.
Catherina Scalia, 45, was arrested Thursday after she offered to engage in sexual activities at her house with an undercover officer, police said.
“I’m a stripper, not a prostitute!” Scalia told police after her arrest, court records say. “And I’m sexy and I know it.”
The undercover officer went to Scalia’s hot dog stand on Thursday afternoon, bought two hot dogs and a bottle of water for about $5, and then asked her about some business cards that were lying around offering stripteases and other sexually oriented services, Nassau police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith said
Scalia allegedly told the officer to call her, and that she could come to his house or the officer could come to hers. At about 8:20 p.m. the officer arrived at Scalia’s house, Smith said.

Mandell, of Boca Raton, Florida, was found guilty in July of conspiracy, securities fraud, wire fraud and mail fraud — all the counts against him — after a trial before U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty in Manhattan. At a hearing today, Crotty also ordered Mandell to serve three years’ probation, pay $10,000 fine and forfeit $50 million. Mandell, who is free on bail, must report to prison on June 18, Crotty said.
Mandell, 55, asked Crotty for mercy in sentencing him, saying that he and his family have suffered continuously since FBI agents raided Sky in November 2006. He told the judge he never intended to cheat anyone, blaming his conviction on false testimony by witnesses given in exchange for leniency.
“This is supposed to be about the truth,” said Mandell, who didn’t testify at his trial. “The people who cooperated here perjured themselves. They lied.”
Prosecutors accused Mandell and his co-defendants of using the money for personal expenditures including private jets, strip clubs, luxury hotels and expensive Swiss watches.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Authorities say a Broward County deputy has been fired for visiting strip clubs while he was on duty and wearing his uniform.
An internal affairs report obtained Monday by the South Florida Sun Sentinel ( http://bit.ly/I5LkE7) says Erik Knutsen embarrassed the agency, lied on reports and skipped official calls so he could remain at The Booby Trap, The Cheetah III and Allstar’s. All three clubs were outside his zone of responsibility.
Knutsen was fired in February after five years with the sheriff’s office. Following a complaint, investigators placed a tracker on Knutsen’s patrol vehicle. Knutsen told investigators he was just visiting friends at the clubs, denying any involvement with the female strippers.
Over a five-week period, the tracker placed his patrol car at the various clubs from 5-10 hours each week.

Konias hid in rundown home with stripper

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — In the two weeks before his arrest, Kenneth Konias Jr. rented a bedroom in a small house on a rundown street here, lavishing a woman he met over the Internet with cash that she used to buy clothing and jewelry and dropping sly hints about a stolen fortune.
It was there, in a tiny room he rented, that authorities found Mr. Konias Tuesday shortly after midnight after local police, sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents swarmed the house, frightening neighbors.
According to Leon Flowers, who has lived at the house at 603 SW Eighth St. for the past 21/2 years, Mr. Konias was quiet and kept to himself, arriving only with a black duffel bag. He paid the $500 monthly rent for his room in cash when he arrived at the house two weeks ago, said Mr. Flowers, who also rents space in the house.

Knutsen, who had been on the force not quite five years, became the focus of an investigation four months ago after the department received an anonymous complaint that he was frequenting the Cheetah III strip club and the nearby Booby Trap cabaret while on duty.
Investigators secreted a GPS tracking device on Knutsen’s squad car. They determined that over a period of five work weeks, Knutsen spent five to ten hours a week, on the clock, at one or both of the clubs.
Additionally, investigators determined that Knutsen reported having responded to calls for service when he was actually hanging at the clubs.
According to an investigative report provided to CBS4 News, one witness claimed to have seen Knutsen cavorting in his squad car with a stripper at one of the flesh palaces. The report quotes the witness as saying “sexual activity was taking place.”

Church builds new place of worship out of former strip club
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A group of Boynton Beach churchgoers is finding God in a former strip club.
A building that recently served as an adult club with nude dancing is now a place of worship.
The transformation is just about complete. Pastor Dumont Pierre of the new Evangelical Assembly of Christ Church on North Federal Highway stood in the exact spot where female dancers shed their clothing for paying customers.
“The poles used to be right there, right there in the middle,” he said, pointing to the center of his new church.
Pastor Pierre said the former strip club was a place where sin ran rampant for far too long.
