He discovered that Ghent wasn’t working the night he supposedly bought drugs from Phillips and was actually in a college class across town. A private investigator Phillips hired, Ralph Marston, tracked down a confidential informant who was supposedly with Ghent the night of the drug sale; she said she had not been there that night.
Phillips also dug up documents on Ghent’s own criminal case. Police charged Ghent with bribery and other crimes in 2007 after he shook down a massage parlor for tens of thousands of dollars. Court documents also accused Ghent of running his own drug ring while working as a cop. He entered a deal with prosecutors that allowed the charges to remain off his record in exchange for Ghent serving community service hours.

May 05–An East Rockaway woman ran a prostitution business out of a hot dog vending truck she often parked on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin, Nassau police said Friday.
Catherina Scalia, 45, was arrested Thursday after she offered to engage in sexual activities at her house with an undercover officer, police said.
“I’m a stripper, not a prostitute!” Scalia told police after her arrest, court records say. “And I’m sexy and I know it.”
The undercover officer went to Scalia’s hot dog stand on Thursday afternoon, bought two hot dogs and a bottle of water for about $5, and then asked her about some business cards that were lying around offering stripteases and other sexually oriented services, Nassau police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith said
Scalia allegedly told the officer to call her, and that she could come to his house or the officer could come to hers. At about 8:20 p.m. the officer arrived at Scalia’s house, Smith said.

Mandell, of Boca Raton, Florida, was found guilty in July of conspiracy, securities fraud, wire fraud and mail fraud — all the counts against him — after a trial before U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty in Manhattan. At a hearing today, Crotty also ordered Mandell to serve three years’ probation, pay $10,000 fine and forfeit $50 million. Mandell, who is free on bail, must report to prison on June 18, Crotty said.
Mandell, 55, asked Crotty for mercy in sentencing him, saying that he and his family have suffered continuously since FBI agents raided Sky in November 2006. He told the judge he never intended to cheat anyone, blaming his conviction on false testimony by witnesses given in exchange for leniency.
“This is supposed to be about the truth,” said Mandell, who didn’t testify at his trial. “The people who cooperated here perjured themselves. They lied.”
Prosecutors accused Mandell and his co-defendants of using the money for personal expenditures including private jets, strip clubs, luxury hotels and expensive Swiss watches.

On April 21, I went to the Martin Memorial Health Systems clinic in Palm City to have a blood draw requested by the endocrinologist who treats me for diabetes. I was told by one of the lab employees that Medicare would not pay for one of the tests that was ordered. I told the lab technician that it was rather strange since I had been following several recent news stories, one, that Barack Obama had taken $500 billion from Medicare to help pay for his “Obamacare” program. This is nothing but a share-the-wealth boondoggle.
The second item I mentioned to the technician was the $850,000 boondoggle financed by taxpayer dollars that paid for the conference for the General Services Administration in Las Vegas. Then I could not help but mention the taxpayer dollars spent recently on prostitution by Obama’s Secret Service forces in Colombia.

Rebecca Bliss, 40, her arms and legs heavily tattooed, said she met Ben Novack Jr., whose father built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach, through an online ad for sex.
Bliss testified for the prosecution at the federal murder trial of Novack’s wife, Narcy Novack, who is accused of arranging the separate 2009 killings of her husband and his mother. Her brother, Cristobal Veliz, is a co-defendant.
Ben Novack was found dead in July 2009 in a room at a New York hotel that he was sharing with his wife. His body had been pummeled with dumbbells, his eyes slit with a knife.

Back in Florida, she said, she turned to prostitution. Ben Novack answered her “escort” ad in an email, and they exchanged emails and phone calls, then met for sex. She charged Novack $600.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida woman is behind bars after allegedly leaving her baby home alone.
Gevona Attley is charged with child neglect after police say she abandoned her 11-month-old daughter at a Hollywood apartment, Friday.
A neighbor found the crying baby eating trash on the floor. The child had been left alone for several hours while Attley was in jail on prostitution charges.
The little girl was taken to the hospital before being handed to the Department of Children and Families.

A team of FBI agents and Pennsylvania investigators are in Florida trying to trace Konias’ movements prior to his arrest early Tuesday in Pompano Beach, north of Miami.
Zappala did not offer details on reports that Konias confided in a prostitute who then told a male acquaintance about Konias before that person contacted Pittsburgh police late Monday. But Zappala said investigators are very interested in what Konias did, where he spent the money and with whom he interacted during the several weeks they believe he spent in south Florida following the heist.
