WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –
A Palm Beach judge has ruled lawyers for a billionaire jailed for soliciting underage prostitutes can subpoena abortion records from women seeking millions in damages.
Circuit Judge Donald Hafele said Tuesday the records could help Jeffrey Epstein refute claims the women suffered a host of problems after being paid to give sexually charged massages when they were as young as 14.
Hafele says the records can’t be sought until the women are asked whether they’ve had an abortion, how many and where. He said the records wouldn’t be made public and ultimately may not be admissible during trial.
A lawyer for a West Palm Beach abortion clinic objected, saying the records are protected by the constitutional right to privacy.
