FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — Racial profiling claims are being made against a South Florida police department after some recent arrests were investigated by a public defender.
The Fort Lauderdale Police are focused on the high-crime neighborhoods in the northwest sections of the city. “In this particular area alone, last year, we received over 1,000 complaints,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Frank Adderly. “Drug activity, prostitution, information that led to burglary arrests, robbery arrests, and this is probably the most active crime area in our city.”
One of the deterrents used by the department is a 24-hour, 360-degree surveillance vehicle, called the Peacemaker. When homeowner Torren Poole was asked if he minded the vehicle sitting in his neighborhood, he said, “For one thing, it restores law on our street.”
