Palm Beach Escorts: Martin County has strong gang presence, expert says

February 22nd, 2012 by palmbeachhobbyist

HOBE SOUND — The greatest gang problem in Martin County isn’t drugs or violence or prostitution; it’s people who don’t believe the area has a gang problem. That’s what gangs specialist Sgt. Edward Brochu stressed Tuesday evening during a Gang Awareness Presentation at the Boys & Girls Club in Hobe Sound.
“Denial is going to make it a bad problem,” he told the audience of about 60.
After hearing his slide and video presentation, nobody could deny gangs are growing in Martin County.
Brochu, from the Martin Sheriff’s Office, began his talk with numbers — 45 known gangs in Martin County, 550 adult members and 200 juveniles in county jails.
“You have a drug problem,” Brochu said, “you’re going to have a gang problem.”
While adults are drawn into gang life by the money in drug trafficking, he continued, youths are drawn by the lifestyle.
