Palm Beach Strip Clubs: Bribery trial opens for ex-Miramar Commissioner Fitzroy Salesman

March 23rd, 2010 by palmbeach-stripper

James Benjamin and Daniel Aaronson, Salesman’s court-appointed attorneys, argued that their client tried to dissuade the undercover agents from paying off politicians or brokering “back room deals,” and that Salesman acted legitimately as a consultant when he brokered two construction jobs for FBI agents between April 2005 and October 2007.
“If you really analyze what happened in this case,” Benjamin told the jury, “he got paid for things he legitimately and above board did while he was not a commissioner.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Kaplan, prosecuting the case, painted a much different picture.
He told jurors that Salesman sold his office, knowingly associated with purported criminals and never once shied from taking a bribe.
“He never resisted,” Kaplan said of Salesman’s alleged bribery. “He never said, `I gotta give you this money back.’ Instead, what he did was he put it in his pocket.”
Kaplan called as his first witness FBI Special Agent Anthony Velazquez, who testified that he met Salesman at a strip club called Diamonds, in North Miami Beach, in March 2005.
