Palm Beach Strip Clubs: Moratorium set for adult businesses
May 20th, 2010 by palmbeach-stripper… The city needs to make amendments to the code of ordinances and the approval processes,” City Manager Charles Faranda said. Lauderhill officials, he said, want to have “a better sense of standards that comply with the federal law.”
Lauderhill’s operations administrator, Leslie Johnson, said city officials are looking to amend Article 3 of the land development code.
In the past few years, other cities have put similar moratoriums in place to curb adult entertainment businesses. Officials in Pembroke Park, for example, established a moratorium several years ago, prompted by the proliferation of strip clubs on Broward Boulevard.
Pembroke Park’s town manager, Bob Levy, said the moratorium was established in order to give officials time to come up with a policy. “We did a moratorium for a year while we developed our guidelines,” Levy said. At the time, he said, “a lot of [strip clubs] were looking for places to move to. Since we got inundated with requests, we decided to find out what was going on.”
