But the case raises more questions. District officials didn’t begin to investigate until more than two years after the case was filed. Some are questioning whether district investigators have a conflict of interest because their boss is married to the principal of Stoneman Douglas.
Accusations against Grad surfaced in March 2007, when school computer technician Brendon Shaub filed a statement with internal affairs officials in the Special Investigative Unit.
In his complaint, Shaub accused Grad of using an elaborate scheme that involved recycling old tickets and stamping fans’ hands instead of accounting for ticket sales by using admission stubs.
“I have watched that money be [given] to people to go eat, used to buy dinner and taken out and put in Mr. Grad’s pocket,” Shaub said in his report, adding that some coaches used the money “for a nude strip club and alcohol.”
